What type of internship experience were you initially looking for?

What type of internship experience were you initially looking for?

I was looking for something within biological or wildlife research, I was very interested in joining projects at Kruger National Park.

How did your actual internship placement compare to your ideal internship experience?

How did your actual internship placement compare to your ideal internship experience?

Lucie told me about a game reserve near Cape Town, which sounded interesting. It ended up being a spot-on match for me!

Did taking part in your internship challenge you and help develop your skills?

Yes, I came straight from school, so I didn’t know anything about caring for wildlife at this level. I learned a lot about caring for rhinos, springbok, and many more!

Overall do you feel that doing this international internship was a worthwhile experience which will help you achieve your career goals?

Yes, I do! It really put me outside my comfort zone, and I think it will look great on my CV! I really loved it and this experience will push me to do more things that I’m uncertain about.

Yes, I think I did!

What were your reasons for wanting to come to Cape Town to do an internship?

I wanted to go somewhere that I’ve never been before and experience something out of my comfort zone! I found Cape Town and it was really beautiful, so I decided I really wanted to go there.

Overall do you feel that doing this international internship was a worthwhile experience which will help you achieve your career goals?

Did you receive sufficient levels of supervision and guidance from your colleagues at your host organisation?

Yes, definitely. I had a whole week of orientation at the beginning, where I was introduced to everyone and the programs they had going. If I ever had a question I could simply ask my mentor who was always available to help me out.

Overall do you feel that doing this international internship was a worthwhile experience which will help you achieve your career goals?

Yes, I was. I oversaw the care of the two rhinos!

I was a little concerned about the crime rate. I heard many scary stories which concerned me a bit.

Having been here, I think if you’re careful all will be fine!

After spending some time in the city, what is your impression of Cape Town?

Awe yes I love it here! After my first day, I decided I wanted to live here. I’m hoping I can come back and maybe study here in the future.

Would you recommend Cape Town as a worthwhile and enjoyable place to visit?

Definitely!

 

I thought the fees were very good compared to everyone else. It was very affordable especially for all the services you get!
