Placement & Programme
What were your reasons for wanting to complete a Environmental Science internship programme in South Africa?

This is the second time I’ve come to South Africa on an internship program with Bridging Gaps. It was so amazing the last time, that I really wanted to come back again. South Africa is known for its wildlife and biodiversity so it was the obvious choice to do a nature conservation internship here… again!

What kind of internship experience were you initially looking for?

I was looking to do something that was relevant to my biology course. I wasn’t looking for something specific, but you gave me a load of ideas and options until I found something I thought was really cool.

How did your actual internship placement compare to your ideal internship experience? ?

It was exactly what I wanted really. I had never done research before and here I was able to work on projects, collecting data that actually meant something to people who were doing research for their degrees.

Did you receive sufficient levels of supervision and guidance from your colleagues at your host organisation?

Yip, they were all very nice and very helpful!

Were you given adequate responsibilities during your internship?

Yeah definitely, they gave me quite a few different things to do. I got to be a part of many projects and I got to take the Eland out on my own for monitoring sometimes!

Did taking part in your internship challenge you and help develop your skills?

Yeah definitely. I got to use a load of new techniques I’ve never used before and I learned a lot from that.

Do you feel that you were given the opportunity to make a valuable contribution to your local host organisation?

Yes, I felt like I was involved in many important projects.

Overall, was this international internship a worthwhile experience that will help you achieve your career goals?

Yeah definitely, I’ve learned a lot! Everything I did was relevant to my course.

Location
What fears did you have before coming to with Bridging Gaps?

This is my second time here so I knew what to expect coming here! I never had any concerns.

What do you think about those fears now?

After spending some time in the city, what is your impression of Cape Town?

My first time in Cape Town I spent time in the city itself, and it was really nice. This time around I spent more time in the Southern Suburbs and got to experience a whole new part of Cape Town.

Would you recommend Cape Town as a worthwhile and enjoyable place to visit?

Yes, 100 percent! My mom also came to visit me here and she loved it!

Service & Support
Did Bridging Gaps help you prepare for your trip sufficiently? E.g. placement search, communications, mentoring?

It was all very smooth, very quick and easy. Even though it was my second time with you guys, I still found your services very useful, especially with the internship and arranging my accommodation.

How was your experience of Bridging Gaps while you were on the ground in ?

It was really good. Always helpful and friendly!!

What was the best feature of the Bridging Gaps Bootstrap internship programme?

Oh, there were lots. The top two features for me would be, firstly, the internships you find for us. Both internships you found for me were incredible and were exactly what I wanted! Second, are the social events you arrange for us. They were just so cool, like the dinners and the trips to cool places were wonderful.

Would you recommend pursuing a Environmental Science internship programme in Cape Town with us to others?

Yeah definitely! I have done that already! Even my mum talks about Bridging Gaps and how you’ve always made it easy for me.

In what ways could our internship programmes be improved?

Uhm… I don’t know. I think I didn’t have an answer to this question last time either.

Before you applied, how did you feel about the programme fees?

I thought they were really reasonable. Everything else out there is much more expensive. And because this is my second time with Bridging Gaps, you gave me a really amazing discount which as awesome!

Having completed your placement and had the experiences you've have, what do you think about the fees now?

What would you say to someone that is considering an internship here but is concerned about the fees?

You get a lot out of what you paid for. Its probably the best deal you’ll get out there!

Anything else you would like to add?
