Harriet's Cape Town Internship Review

Business  Internship In Cape Town, 2019

Just how hands on you are! You make an effort to get to know all the interns and you really care about our well-being. It's really nice to have that support especially when you are alone in a foreign country for the first time!

"Best Experience Ever!"

Harriet Mallaby's Review from Go Abroad | May 14, 2019

From the moment I arrived in Cape Town Lucie, Julian and Luigi were on hand to answer any questions and assist with any problems. No issue was too large or small for them, and they helped me settle into life in a different country. The excursions Bridging Gaps organised were always fun and well planned! I’d definitely recommend doing the township tour and of course the safari! Bridging Gaps were also great in helping me plan and book my own activities and experiences. They all made me feel completely at ease, as the reassurance they always provided was amazing. Just knowing that in a country where I initially knew no one, there was a group of people with my best interests at heart was so brilliant!

The internship I completed was in a corporate branding and marketing company. Luigi took me on my first day to the placement so I would know where to go. As small as this may seem, it was such a nice comfort especially when you’re in a country you’ve never been to before. I really enjoyed my internship as I learned so much about an industry I’d never given much thought to, and if given the chance I’d do it all over again. My boss at the Brand Innovation had dealt with lots of interns, so I was able to turn my hand to a variety of different tasks whilst I was there. I loved my time in Cape Town and although it took me a while to fully settle in, I wouldn’t have changed it for the world. The whole team at Bridging Gaps are amazing and recommend them to everyone!

Business Internship Placement Experience

What type of internship experience were you initially looking for?

What type of internship experience were you initially looking for?

I was initially just looking for some real working experience. I wanted a job I could learn from, whether it was something I’d eventually decide to go into or not, I just wanted some work experience.

How did your actual internship placement compare to your ideal internship experience?

How did your actual internship placement compare to your ideal internship experience?

My actual internship was great because it really did provide me with hands-on experience of a marketing environment which I initially knew nothing about. I feel like I’m leaving the internship knowing so much more, not just about the work, but also about myself; like my working patterns and my work ethic.

Did taking part in your internship challenge you and help develop your skills?

Did taking part in your internship challenge you and help develop your skills?

Yes, it did. It challenged me in terms of organisation and time management because that was something I’ve never really had to do before! After starting out I was suddenly having to stick to very strict deadlines and get things done. That challenged me a lot, but I worked through it and I feel great about it now!

Overall do you feel that doing this international internship was a worthwhile experience which will help you achieve your career goals?

Overall do you feel that doing this international internship was a worthwhile experience which will help you achieve your career goals?

Yes, a hundred percent! It taught me so much and I don’t think I would have gotten this experience back home!

The reason I wanted to come to Cape Town was that it was somewhere I had never been to before and I heard amazing things about the city! I also knew I wanted to do an internship to get work experience so Bridging Gaps gave me the opportunity to put the two together into one trip. It just made sense that this was the place to come!

Overall do you feel that doing this international internship was a worthwhile experience which will help you achieve your career goals?

Did you receive sufficient levels of supervision and guidance from your colleagues at your host organisation?

Yes absolutely. I received so much support.

Bridging Gap's service

Harriet's Review of Our Internship Programme & Services

Did Bridging Gaps help you prepare for your trip sufficiently?

Did Bridging Gaps help you prepare for your trip sufficiently?

Yes, they did. They sent through so much information, not only to me but to my parents as well. They included all of us in the process which was great because my parents were especially worried about me travelling alone. They were always there for me. If I had any questions I’d just sent you guys an email and then I would get a response that same day, sometimes within an hour! I don’t even get that service back home!!

How was your experience of Bridging Gaps while you were on the ground in Cape Town?
