Mari's Cape Town Internship Review

Film & Media  Internship In Cape Town, 2018

The one thing I love the most about Bridging Gaps are the people that work for the company are really relatable and young and friendly! We often went out for dinner together or went out for coffee to chat a few times. It was always so easy to chat to them because they just acted like friends!

"Experience of a lifetime!"

Mari's Review from Go Abroad | October 19, 2018

Living in Cape Town for 3 months was an incredible experience, and Bridging Gaps made everything so much easier for me! Lucie, Julian, and Luigi answered any questions I had pre-departure and stayed in contact with me the whole time to make sure everything was going well. The housing they found for me was the highlight of my experience. I met amazing friends from all around the world and also South African friends that showed me around the city. I loved how Bridging Gaps organized trips like safaris, for their interns to go on as well as just being around to meet for a coffee or lunch! They definitely made me feel welcome and mad\awe my stay in Cape Town 100x easier! Thank you!

Film & Media Internship Placement Experience

What type of internship experience were you initially looking for?

What type of internship experience were you initially looking for?

Initially, I wasn’t looking so much to learn about broadcast journalism. I was looking to experience what the workplace in South Africa would be like compared to the workplace in America and the job I had in Australia. I was looking for experience in how news was done in different countries.

Did taking part in your internship challenge you and help develop your skills?

Did taking part in your internship challenge you and help develop your skills?

It definitely did challenge me and took me out of my comfort zone. It made me try new things I wouldn’t have tried back home in broadcast journalism since they do things so differently here. It was a good experience to do things the way South Africans do things!

Overall do you feel that doing this international internship was a worthwhile experience which will help you achieve your career goals?

Overall do you feel that doing this international internship was a worthwhile experience which will help you achieve your career goals?

Yes, it was definitely a worthwhile experience and I think my internship in Cape Town was one of the big reasons I landed a new job back home in the states. I think that interning abroad is a really really good way to further your career back home!

Do you feel that you were given the opportunity to make a valuable contribution to your local host organisation?

Do you feel that you were given the opportunity to make a valuable contribution to your local host organisation?

Yes, I feel like I made tons of valuable contributions! I got to share a lot of tips about how things are done back home, for example I showed them how we do different camera shots back home which turned out to be a great help to them. I probably did about 25 stories that went on their broadcast in the time I was with them!

Overall do you feel that doing this international internship was a worthwhile experience which will help you achieve your career goals?

What were your reasons for wanting to come to Cape Town to do an internship?

I love to travel and so I’ve already been to Australia and Europe so I decided Africa was next on my list. When I was researching, I found that Cape Town just seemed like the perfect place that had lots of job opportunities and a big business industry, so I knew that I would find an internship within the field I was looking for!

Overall do you feel that doing this international internship was a worthwhile experience which will help you achieve your career goals?

Were you given adequate responsibilities during your internship?

Yes I was given a lot of responsibilities, I was busy every single day, I always had projects to do and was never bored with my internship!

Before my trip Lucie was in constant contact with me. Every single time I thought of a question, I would just text her and she would immediately arrange to call me and made every effort to make sure I understood every question I had.

Mari's Review of Our Internship Programme & Services

Did Bridging Gaps help you prepare for your trip sufficiently?

Did Bridging Gaps help you prepare for your trip sufficiently?

Before my trip Lucie was in constant contact with me. Every single time I thought of a question, I would just text her and she would immediately arrange to call me and made every effort to make sure I understood every question I had. Lucie also did all the contact with my internship beforehand so I didn’t have to do anything. She did all the contact with the housing. It was very convenient.

How was your experience of Bridging Gaps while you were on the ground in Cape Town?

How was your experience of Bridging Gaps while you were on the ground in Cape Town?

My experience with Bridging Gaps while I was in Cape Town was very good! They always kept in contact with me and If I needed anything they helped me in every way that they could. When I was sick, they brought me meds, when I needed a hair dryer Lucie borrowed one to me, everything I had a slight concern for they made sure I got it. They also planned a bunch of events for all the interns and it was a great way to make friends and experience Cape Town!

No idea!

Would you recommend pursing an internship in Cape Town with Bridging Gaps to other people?

How did you feel about the program fees before you applied?

I think its good compared to other companies.

Would you recommend pursing an internship in Cape Town with Bridging Gaps to other people?

What would you say to someone who is considering an internship with Bridging Gaps, but is concerned about the fees?

I would say that money comes and goes, you can always make more money, but you can’t always get the experiences you’ve missed or take back opportunities you’ve missed. I worked every day in a restaurant to save up to come to South Africa and now I’m broke, but the experience I got during my time here is worth it!
