Placement & Programme
What were your reasons for wanting to complete a Public Relations internship programme in South Africa?

I wanted to get some professional experience after just finishing my degree, and I thought Cape Town would be the best place to do it. It was recommended to me by a friend who said she had a fantastic experience here!

What kind of internship experience were you initially looking for?

I always wanted to do PR which is the field I asked Lucie to look into for me. Lucie quickly found me an amazing placement and I really never expected it to be as hands-on as it was.

How did your actual internship placement compare to your ideal internship experience? ?

I got exactly what I was looking for.

Did you receive sufficient levels of supervision and guidance from your colleagues at your host organisation?

Yes! They were very helpful and I quickly got into the swing of things.

Were you given adequate responsibilities during your internship?

Yeah definitely! I got thrown into the deep end a little, but it was truly the best thing for me!

Did taking part in your internship challenge you and help develop your skills?

Yes definitely. Because they didn't ever spoon feed me. I was treated like another employee. At the same time, they were very supportive and were always available when I needed some help.

Do you feel that you were given the opportunity to make a valuable contribution to your local host organisation?

Yes, I do! They really needed extra help during the time I was there as they were understaffed at the time. So I was trusted with a lot of extra work on top of my regular duties.

Overall, was this international internship a worthwhile experience that will help you achieve your career goals?

100% YES.

Location
What fears did you have before coming to with Bridging Gaps?

Probably the safety issues within South Africa. When I first arrived I really didn’t know what to expect.

What do you think about those fears now?

It’s ridiculous how much my opinion has changed, sure there are a few things you need to take into account like walking around alone late at night. But for the most part I have the freedom to do most things. I go running, I walk to the stores. I learned to be more street smart.

After spending some time in the city, what is your impression of Cape Town?

It's amazing. The history and the culture of the city are so interesting and it's such a beautiful place! I love it here.

Would you recommend Cape Town as a worthwhile and enjoyable place to visit?

Yes Definitely!

What was the best feature of the Bridging Gaps Bootstrap internship programme?

I just loved the social events and the dinners you were always organizing for us. I quickly felt at home and made friends with other interns. The staff at Bridging Gaps don’t treat you like another number. I felt like I became good friends with everyone and I could approach you at any time if I need to talk about something.

Would you recommend pursuing a Public Relations internship programme in Cape Town with us to others?

Definitely yes!

In what ways could our internship programmes be improved?

Before you applied, how did you feel about the programme fees?

I feel like the fees were quite reasonable compared to other companies.

Having completed your placement and had the experiences you've have, what do you think about the fees now?

It was definitely worth it. The services provide an extra level of support that I really needed.

What would you say to someone that is considering an internship here but is concerned about the fees?

If you have never been to Cape Town before or if you are travelling alone or if this is the first time you are considering an internship abroad, I’d really recommend paying for the extra services because you get so so much out of it.
