Placement & Programme
What were your reasons for wanting to complete a Digital Marketing internship programme in South Africa?

A big part of coming here for me was to experience a different culture. I felt like Cape Town would be a completely new and different experience.

What kind of internship experience were you initially looking for?

I came to do a marketing internship. I wanted to be part of a company and team.

How did your actual internship placement compare to your ideal internship experience? ?

Did you receive sufficient levels of supervision and guidance from your colleagues at your host organisation?

Yeah definitely. My supervisor took good care of me, she checked in on me at least once or twice a week. If I was working on a different project with other team members, she often checked in to see how I was doing and if I needed anything.

Were you given adequate responsibilities during your internship?

Yeah! So a big part of what I did at my host company was their social media. I got to handle most of this and I also got to help with other projects if other teams needed an extra hand!

Did taking part in your internship challenge you and help develop your skills?

Yes I’d say so. Although I have studied marketing, it was good to get some first-hand experience with the social media side of things, and stuff I’ve never actually done on my own.

Do you feel that you were given the opportunity to make a valuable contribution to your local host organisation?

Yeah definitely! I got to work on a project and then see the benefits the company got from it fairly quickly.

Overall, was this international internship a worthwhile experience that will help you achieve your career goals?

Definitely! Not only in work but even just working in a new country within a new culture, I feel like these skills will help me greatly back home!

Location
What fears did you have before coming to with Bridging Gaps?

So I feel like there’s this perception that Cape Town is a very dangerous place, and that you can’t go anywhere without being really careful and so I was mostly worried about safety. I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to get out much or walk on my own or anything.

What do you think about those fears now?

It wasn’t at all what I thought it would be. I felt very comfortable walking around and getting around the city.

After spending some time in the city, what is your impression of Cape Town?

It's an incredible place. There aren't many places in the world where you got mountains, ocean and city life all so close together. Everything you could want to do is all right here in one place.

Would you recommend Cape Town as a worthwhile and enjoyable place to visit?

Yeah definitely! There's just so much stuff to do.

Service & Support
Did Bridging Gaps help you prepare for your trip sufficiently? E.g. placement search, communications, mentoring?

I applied quite late for this program, but it didn't seem like a problem. Luigi and Lucie always kept me up to date with where I was in the application process! There was constant communication and I always knew what I needed to do next, so it was very good.

How was your experience of Bridging Gaps while you were on the ground in ?

Really good! I felt like if I ever needed information or help with anything I could contact you at any time. I appreciated how you always checked up on how I was doing at work and how I was settling in. It never felt like I arrived here and then was just forgotten about. You were a part of my Cape Town experience!

What was the best feature of the Bridging Gaps Concierge internship programme?

I think the social events were the best. Like going out with all the other Bridging Gaps interns to do wine tastings and tours or just exploring! The dinners were also really nice!

Would you recommend pursuing a Digital Marketing internship programme in Cape Town with us to others?

Yeah definitely! The job you secured for me was great, you were always very helpful, and the social and support was good, so I would definitely recommend Bridging Gaps!

In what ways could our internship programmes be improved?

I never had a problem!

Before you applied, how did you feel about the programme fees?

I think it’s a good price for all the service you get. I also feel like there were interns I met from different companies who paid much more than me.

Having completed your placement and had the experiences you've have, what do you think about the fees now?

What would you say to someone that is considering an internship here but is concerned about the fees?

Anything else you would like to add?
