Placement & Programme
What were your reasons for wanting to complete a Business internship programme in South Africa?

I guess I’ve always had Cape Town high on my list of places to go, and when I saw an internship program available in Cape Town I decided to kinda do two birds in one.

What kind of internship experience were you initially looking for?

One where I got proper responsibility. I've done work in the past but it was very much more observational and shadowing. So I was looking for something more hands-on.

How did your actual internship placement compare to your ideal internship experience? ?

It was pretty much what I was looking for! I got to get an overall picture of the different roles involved.

Did you receive sufficient levels of supervision and guidance from your colleagues at your host organisation?

Yeah, It was a good balance. I never got spoon-fed, I was quite independent, but whenever I needed help or had questions they were more than happy to answer.

Were you given adequate responsibilities during your internship?

I think so, a lot of the work I was doing was stuff I had never done before. I wanted to see what it's like to run a business.

Did taking part in your internship challenge you and help develop your skills?

Do you feel that you were given the opportunity to make a valuable contribution to your local host organisation?

Yes, A lot of the time the projects I did didn’t seem important, but after I was done I could definitely see what I did helped the team.

Overall, was this international internship a worthwhile experience that will help you achieve your career goals?

Yes, especially in South Africa, the work environment is very different. It was nice to see that offices don’t all work the same way, and that there are many other ways to do things. It's great because if I start my own business one day I can incorporate different ways of doing things into my business.

Location
What fears did you have before coming to with Bridging Gaps?

Cape Town has a reputation for being unsafe, so I was scared of that. This has also been the longest I’ve been away from home. I was also worried I wouldn’t make friends while I was here.

What do you think about those fears now?

In hindsight, I was probably a little naive. I never really felt unsafe in Cape Town. It felt a lot like Uni!

After spending some time in the city, what is your impression of Cape Town?

I really really like Cape Town. It’s the first place I’ve been to where I feel I could live here for a while!

Would you recommend Cape Town as a worthwhile and enjoyable place to visit?

Yeah definitely! Its been the best couple of months of my life!

Service & Support
Did Bridging Gaps help you prepare for your trip sufficiently? E.g. placement search, communications, mentoring?

Yeah, Lucie was very helpful, even if I had a really small question, she always answered quickly and gave good advice.

How was your experience of Bridging Gaps while you were on the ground in ?

It was amazing! Before I cam I never realized how hands-on Bridging Gaps would be. I thought it would be kind of like a- pick up from the airport, and only see when you leave kind of thing, but it wasn’t like that at all! Bridging Gaps organized so many social events and was always checking up on me and helped book activities. You were always looking out for us.

What was the best feature of the Bridging Gaps Bootstrap internship programme?

Did Bridging Gaps help you prepare for your trip sufficiently? E.g. placement search, communications, mentoring?

Yeah, Lucie was very helpful, even if I had a really small question, she always answered quickly and gave good advice.

Would you recommend pursuing a Business internship programme in Cape Town with us to others?

Yeah, I think what I was asking for, for my internship was very random and unique, and Lucie really smashed it out the park and got me exactly what I wanted!

In what ways could our internship programmes be improved?

Before you applied, how did you feel about the programme fees?

I thought they were quite reasonable compared to other companies.

Having completed your placement and had the experiences you've have, what do you think about the fees now?

Definitely justified. But after given the services it was definitely justified.

What would you say to someone that is considering an internship here but is concerned about the fees?

Even if it seems like a lot of money at the time, the experience you get, and the memories you get to take home and the friends you make really makes it worth it!
