I’ve always wanted to visit Cape Town. I thought it would be a good opportunity to be able to do something productive while I was here as well. I always thought it was culturally diverse and I wanted to experience that in person!
This was it! This internship I did here was exactly what I was looking for. I was looking for a journalism internship where I was hoping my work could get published while I was here.
Spot on!
Yes I did. In the beginning not so much, but I learned that sometimes people are just busy and if you ask questions they will always try to answer them.
I was given more than adequate responsibilities! I was given a lot of responsibilities it was awesome!
Yes it was very challenging in a good way and it definitely developed my skills.
Yes, they were understaffed like many media companies these days, so I was always doing something and always working on several projects at a time!
Yeah it gave me the opportunity to build my portfolio which is great. I initially thought I might have ended the internship with 2 or 3 published articles, but I ended up with a lot more. I’m applying for a masters program and they want a portfolio, so I am now in a position where I can actually pick out the best of what I wrote. Working abroad also gave me a different perspective. As a tourist you only see things from one side, usually the absolute best of a country. Whereas working here allowed me to experience the country in a more unbiased and real way.
I was afraid I wouldn’t get along with people. I was worried I’d be very lonely.
All Gone! Bridging Gaps did a really great job bringing all the interns together by hosting different social activities and I made friends really quickly.
It is vibrant and so beautiful and its left enough of an impression to make me want to come back!
Yes! I’d also say don’t just go to the normal touristy places in Cape Town. There are so many more amazing things to see and Bridging Gaps did a great job showing us the hidden gems of Cape Town. I also never felt unsafe in Cape Town and it was a very humbling experience for me to come here and actually see how different life is here compared to back home.
Yes, I don’t think I had a single question that Bridging Gaps didn’t answer before my arrival or during my stay. I was so settled the minute I got here. The orientation was really helpful too!!
You guys were awesome! First of all you helped organise so many events, like paragliding, skydiving and an amazing safari. You also were so helpful recommending places to go and getting us discounts! You’ve also been helpful with your constant check ins with us, and it was great to see if an intern was having a tough time, you stepped in and helped arrange a whole new internship for them within a matter of days. The social activities are also great!
How available you always are, 24/7. I lost my phone at 3 in the morning, and you picked up when I called for help. It’s definitely the best feature, you’re a small team but you feel like older siblings looking out for us. It’s a very homey, welcoming feel that you guys have.

I have no idea. I think I’ve gotten the absolute best experience I could have gotten. Even when I was having a difficult time during the first 2 weeks of my internship, I never had a single problem with Bridging Gaps itself.
I thought it was very reasonable. I saw other programs and they were way more expensive.
