The best education and teaching internships in Cape Town?
We think so. We pride ourselves on delivering customised internship placements and on the ground support that offer life-changing, valuable professional experiences.
Our customised internship programme is designed to help prepare aspiring teachers for their future in education. Pursuing a teaching internship will not only equip you with valuable classroom experience, but it provides you with the opportunity to work alongside experienced teachers who act as your mentors.
All the schools and care facilities we collaborate with in Cape Town benefit hugely from the assistance of classroom assistants, and although the general lack of resources provides a challenging work environment, we are sure you will have an unforgettably rewarding experience! As an intern you will have the opportunity to see how a school in a developing country operates, as well as learning how to maintain classroom discipline.
We also offer a variety of education internships in a range of inspiring local NGO’s focused on equal access to education, education policy and the general development of the education system in South Africa. As an education intern, your experience of a successful education culture, as well as your fresh perspective and ideas, can make a valuable contribution to the improvement of the education system in South Africa.
As well as gaining a better understanding of education on an international scale, you will also get to interact with some incredible local teachers, mentors, trainers and children, who will be extremely excited by your presence! Whilst gaining valuable work experience in the field of education and policy, this is your chance to make a difference in the lives of children who need it the most.

Here's what others said when they applied. Some of these people came just for this career area, some mixed it with other career fields too...
I hope to gain more experience in plant science at a higher educational level (for example a university). I am really interested in how plants grow and how they are cultured, especially tropical (production) plants. I also consider a job in plant breeding. I would prefer to work with plants in the lab/climatecells/outdoors and besides that to gain some computer related skills for example bioinformatics. I am also interested in international trade, but my major is applied biology, so I have no experience with this. And of course it would be nice to have nice colleagues to work together with :)
I hope to gain work experience and get to know a relevant field of work
I hope to gain experience to better myself as a teacher in the future. I am also hoping to get a paid internship as that would help my family afford this.
In researching different internship opportunities between my Masters program semesters, I cam across bridging gaps. I am eager to learn more about the learning outcomes bridging gaps provides. I am looking to gain further international experience in a different cultural context and education background.
I am looking for a fruitful experience abroad post-graduation. I am flexible in what I am looking for. I really enjoy working with youth which is why I am interested in teaching English.
I hope to use my traits of compassion and empathy to help care for our world, its animals, and its inhabitants. I believe that every organism on this planet deserves to have the same quality of life as every one of us. With this is mind, I hope to gain a stronger connection with my world and the other organisms that share the same planet as I do, so that one day I can use these newly learned skills and knowledge to make an even larger difference.
I hope to continue my passion for travel and service through a program in Bridging Gaps. I am interested in helping women and working to improve humans rights.
I hope to learn crucial skills in regard to program development, implementation, and maintenance. I would love to do HIV/AIDS relief work.
I strongly believe that experiences cultivate ourselves. It is essential to get out of your confort zone in order to achieve success. I hope to develop personal and academic skills that will help me to be a better professional. I am open to learn everything I could; from daily "trivial" situations to formal learning experiences.
Gain relevant experience that will aid in my future job hunt. I hope to contribute towards conservation and promote sustainable living, whether this is in Scotland or abroad. I am keen to share knowledge but also learn from others!

We've answered some specific questions about this internship programme below.
No it is not a requirement that you have any previous teaching experience but it is beneficial if you have some experience working with children. The schools we collaborate with are more likely to offer you an internship opportunity if you have some experience in au pairing, sports coaching, camp leadership or any other similar position.
Usually we limit our placement search to one organisation for you because it is more beneficial to yourself and the organisation if you only commit to one place. We find that the longer our participants stay at their placement, the more they learn and gain from the experience. However, if you are planning on staying in Cape Town for over 6 months, then we can explore more than one option for you. Also, we can facilitate weekend volunteering opportunities for anyone who is interested.
This very much depends on your personal interests and goals, as well as your existing experience. We collaborate with a wide range of local schools that offer internship opportunities in all grades. During your internship you could act as a teaching assistant in more than one classroom and gain experience working with children of all ages.
Send it to us below and we will answer ASAP.
