Here's what others said when they applied. Some of these people came just for this career area, some mixed it with other career fields too...
I hope to gain work experience and get to know a relevant field of work
I've recently finished my undergraduate degree in History at the University of Edinburgh. During my degree I became interested in studying international development and social history. I'm very passionate about a career in this sort of area that allows me to work within communities. Gaining experience abroad would be incredibly insightful and interesting as I am keen to develop my skills in writing, communication, team-building as well as gaining exposure to a different environment and cultures.
I hope to further develop my news gathering, reporting and story telling abilities as a journalist as well as work to support the area I work with the most accurate, up-to-date news.
I hope to work with wildlife park conservation teams., video my experiences and write my experiences in the form of a Wildlife documentary, meet some amazing people along the journey and stay in contact with them.
I hope to gain a better understanding of South African culture while also gaining skills that will help me make a difference and empower working people after law school.
I hope to gain valuable tools to help me pursue a professional career, develop my writing skills and have a better knowledge and understanding of work outside of Britain and Europe.
If given the opportunity I believe the internship will aid in me further developing professional skills, outside of academia. I also hope that it will fulfil my purpose to pursue a career within the creative sector.
I hope to gain a meaningful cultural experience, enlightening insight on what work environments I enjoy the most, and the chance to prove myself as a writer and explorer.
This internship programme would not only enable me to explore beyond my normal horizons geographically, but it’d also fill me with the confidence I need to embark upon my (yet to be chosen) career path. I hope to gain experience academically, in a world of work culturally different from that of the UK. I also endeavour to perfect my own skills, and follow subjects which I am truly passionate about.
I hope to gain insight into what its like in a different part of the world, to expose myself to different ways of life so that I have more of an understanding of the world instead of just my bubble within it. I hope to gain work experience to increase my skills and confidence, to give myself the best prospects for after I graduate.

We've answered some specific questions about this internship programme below.
Yes definitely! In the past many of our interns have had their articles published but it is important to note that this is dependent on the quality of your writing and stories.
No definitely not. Some writing samples or experience writing for a school or university paper would be beneficial, but it is not necessary. English students stand in very good stead to be offered a fantastic journalism internship position too.
All our programmes are customized so we base our search for the best suitable placement for you completely on your individual skills and interests as well as your personal and professional goals. We also work with over 400 local organisations across a number of different fields so in order to give you examples of where you could be placed, it is necessary for us to chat to you further to find out where your interests lie. After you submit an enquiry we will get back to you to arrange a skype chat as soon as possible.
